The Artist

Deb Gargula

Deb cannot remember a time when she did not draw and paint! Each piece of art is an adventure, a chance to explore the world, to experiment with her materials and stretch her imagination. Her paintings are atmospheric and tranquil rather than a photographic representation of the subject. She is inspired by the nurture and variety of creation.
Her art is about sharing beauty, inspiration, impressions. She currently creates using colored pencil as well as soft pastel. The result of allowing herself to explore and play, has led to starting her artworks on a number of substrates including wood, porcelain, travertine stone, formed paper, canvas, as well as different types and textures of paper. She designs and develops 3D constructions, allowing her to tell the story of her subject from different viewpoints and multiple images within the same piece of art. This journey has revealed that the journey is never over. There is always something new to explore and a new way to present it. She carries this belief into her teaching.
Deb a BFA degree from Northern Illinois University. She loves to learn and in keeping with her desire to explore new things, continues her education with internationally known artists. She has been teaching workshops and private lessons since 2012. She earned her CPX status for experimental art show ExploreThis! in 2020 with the Colored Pencil Society of America. She is a member of CPSA DC 214 in Los Angeles. She has been published in multiple issues of CP Treasures. She has been honored with numerous awards and her work is included in private collections worldwide.
In 2012 Deb was invited to become a studio partner in Studio 34A. This opportunity to share her work and participate in an artists’ group there has impacted her art. She exhibits in venues throughout the US. She is also a member of the Escondido Municipal Gallery in Escondido, CA.
