About

The Artist

Sarah Miller

Sarah E. Miller is a metalsmith and enamelist based in San Diego, CA. Sarah began selling her handmade jewelry in 2013. Sarah is drawn to simple shapes with interesting details to reflect elements of nature, the ocean and yoga philosophy. Sarah creates organic shapes and curves in metal and her jewelry features bezel set gemstones, sea glass, shells and rocks. She also uses vitreous enameling, an ancient technique of melting glass into metal. Her favorite pieces are made using cloisonne and champleve enameling, which go back about 3,000 years. These techniques involve sawing out recesses in fine silver and using thin silver flat wire to create a canvas for the enamel. Sarah enjoys creating larger enameled works such as wall art, dishes, bowls and incense holders to expand her design scope.

Sarah started her metalsmith journey by learning the basics from Jay Whaley. She learned copper enameling at the San Diego Community College District, West City campus in Pt. Loma from Rick Schneider. She has continued to study and learn from Sandra McEwen and Nicole Ringgold. In 2025, Sarah won the “Best in Metal” prize for a cloisonne enameled bowl.

Sarah has sold pieces at many juried art festivals and galleries including: San Diego Enamel Guild, Off Track Gallery, Santa Cruz Sea Glass Festival, North Park Festival of the Arts, Encinitas Street Fair, Talmadge Art Show, Santa Barbara Sea Glass Festival, San Clemente Ocean Festival, San Diego Makers Arcade, and more.

Sarah is a display artist in the Enamel Guild, Studio 5.
