The Artist

Lee Bennett

My name is Lee Bennett, I am over eighty years old. I’ve been blessed to be born in San Diego California.
I learned to dive for abalone at the young age of nine. Abalone is what started my career in the art of making jewelry. I began cleaning and grinding shells then creating pieces of jewelry for my mother and my aunt. I furthered my skills by learning how to use hand tools from my grandfather and painting from my mother.
As I grew older my love and connection for the ocean grew stronger. As a young man I worked on a tuna boat, with eyes I saw what I would eventually paint and carve. To this day I am still drawn to the sea.
In my life I have been a United States Marine, carpenter, watercolor painter, and now a silversmith.
I have been honored to have won prizes for my creativity, design and skill when making my one of a kind pieces of jewelry.
My paintings are hanging in many private homes where they too love the beauty of the sea.

Lee is an artist in Studio 10.
