100th Anniversary Mural: Painting Extravaganza

Painting Extravaganza – June 21, 2015
To celebrate Balboa Park’s 100th anniversary, Spanish Village artists joined forces for a once-in-a-lifetime project: a live painting of a 20-foot mural depicting the Pan-American Exposition scene, “1915 Balboa Park.”

1915 Centennial 20 Foot Long Mural - Painting Extravaganza - Spanish Village Art Center

Ten Village artists each painted a 2 ft. x 6 ft. panel, coming together to create a vibrant panorama of the Park’s historic flora and figures in early 20th-century attire. The project was a true collaborative undertaking—an artistic gift for our visitors and for Balboa Park’s Centennial celebration.

The completed mural can still be enjoyed today on the wall of the Senior Coffee Room _____in the Prado, Balboa Park—a lasting tribute to creativity, history, and community.
