Balboa Park’s 100th Anniversary: Elements
Whether it is dividing the world into water, fire, earth, and air or RNA, DNA, quarks, and electrons, we want to understand the world we live in. While science helps us recognize and measure smaller and smaller parts, art reminds us of our emotional connection to our experience with the four basic elements – Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Visitors were invited to immerse themselves in the realm of the four elements and experience it through the eyes, hands, hearts, and words of artists from Spanish Village Art Center, Inc.

Art…. It’s Elemental
We humans strive to understand the world we live in.
From the first time
we floated in WATER,
burned our hands in the FIRE,
quarried stone from the EARTH,
and dreamed of flying on the AIR,
we have sought to understand the world through our EXPERIENCE.
Art reminds us of our deep emotional connection to the four basic elements.
As a celebration of the of Balboa Park’s Centennial, Spanish Village Art Center, Inc. invited visitors to step into this realm and explore earth, air, fire, and water through the eyes, hands and hearts of our artists. It was an immersive journey—where creativity met the elements, and the elements came alive through art.
Please take a moment to enjoy how our artists
have captured the essence of the elements
